A suspicious object found in Darlington yesterday was destroyed by the bomb squad. Police are currently searching for the man involved in the incident.
At around 3.50pm yesterday (Tuesday, October 24), police received a report of a suspicious object in the Neesham Road area of Darlington.
Residents were evacuated from their homes around teatime on Tuesday before they heard an “explosion” and were informed by police at the scene that a bomb squad from Catterick had been called.

The area was cordoned off while explosive ordnance disposal experts examined the items. The item was determined to pose no threat and was safely destroyed.
At 5:41 p.m., a loud explosion was heard at the TA Center down the road.
The cordon was lifted around 6:40 p.m.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating the incident would like to speak to a man wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a baseball cap who was seen at the scene at the time of the call. Ta.
“Anyone who may have seen the man in the area between 3.30pm and 4pm is asked to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 285 of October 24.”
