My client is a large, award-winning top 45 law firm with offices across the UK and is looking for experienced talent. CQC and Healthcare Research Associate To join a regulatory department based in Birmingham.The Regulatory Department is highly diverse and provides a wide range of specialist advice to organizations and individuals facing health and safety, criminal and other regulatory prosecutions and involved in coronial examinations. The department also advises medical professionals who may be subject to criminal and professional regulatory sanctions, and trusts and organizations on a range of issues, from Court of Protection matters to requests for her DPA. This role will primarily focus on defending the organization in relation to Care Quality Commission enforcement and prosecutions. The successful candidate will manage her CQC and coroner file caseloads for our various healthcare trusts and organizations.
This role typically involves advising and supporting clients on:
- Compliance with CQC
- Regulatory and enforcement issues
- Management concerns about health and safety
- protection of investigation
- police enforcement
- autopsy
This role will also involve developing CQC practices within the company.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Deal with high volume CQC issues
- Advocacy at pre-mortem examination hearings and inquests
- Achieving set financial and billing goals
- Ensure relevant deadlines, quality standards and KPIs are met
- Compliance with relevant policies and procedures
- Work according to Weightmans values

It is expected that you will have experience with a range of CQC regulatory and compliance issues, including:
- Registration of providers and managers
- Responding to and appealing CQC inspection reports
- proposal notice
- Article 31 “Urgent notification of decision”
- Amended penalty notices and prosecutions
- Providers under “special measures”
- Police investigation and autopsy
- Challenges to CQC enforcement decisions in the primary court
- Challenges of judicial review of CQC decisions
- Regulatory due diligence for care home purchases
I also have experience representing interested parties in coronial proceedings.
Mandatory requirements
- Qualified Solicitor 3-7 years PQE.
- CQC case management experience
- Advocacy experience
