Staff and residents at a care home in Bury are celebrating after the facility achieved a good rating following the latest inspection.

Epworth Grange, in Chermside Street, cares for older people and had 38 residents at the time of the visit by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors.

Residents said staff were kind and considerate and treated people well.

Systems and processes were also in place to protect people from the risk of harm and abuse.

The care home achieved a score of ‘Good’ in each of the five areas marked.

The report states: “People living in the house and their relatives said they felt safe using the service.

“One person said, ‘The staff are terrible.’ They look after me well and I feel very safe here.”

“Another said: ‘The staff are so nice and look after me and make me feel so safe. They’re so helpful.’”

The report said staff were recruited safely and all necessary procedures were followed.

Medications were stored safely and medication records were filled out accurately and without missing signatures by staff.

The report added that the home was able to build caring relationships thanks to long-standing staff who knew people well.

One resident said: “I’m very happy here. The staff are very helpful and help me get up, get dressed and take a shower.”

“Our clothes are cleaned to a high standard and a cleaner comes to clean my room every day.”

The relative added: “We feel she is very well taken care of and it gives us peace of mind that she is here and is being cared for the way she is.”

The care home was also rated ‘good’ after its last inspection in October 2017.

Home manager Susan Hopkinson said: “Everyone at home has contributed to ensuring we achieve this recognition and I’m extremely proud of them.

“This was a complete team effort and we are all very happy with the result.

“We received the same rating the last time the CQC inspected it, so we are very pleased to see consistency.

“We hope to continue the good work and just want to thank everyone for their hard work.”
