North Cumbria’s maternity services praised by new mothers

ITV Border Reporter Kate Walby visited Cumberland Infirmary’s maternity ward to meet patients and staff.

Many women across North Cumbria have praised their positive experiences with maternity services. The latest survey by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that 146 women carlyle, penrithand white haven They were asked about the care they received at different stages of pregnancy.

Jennifer Webster, 25 weeks pregnant with her second child, was receiving treatment at Cumberland Clinic, where she also gave birth to her first child.

She said: “I was really touched.After giving birth I was a bit unsteady and had some bleeding.

“Everyone at Carlisle was amazing and really looked out for me, so I felt completely safe.

“I’ve had a lot of midwife appointments in the community.

“Everyone is nice and really friendly!”

Women who gave birth in the region last year were asked a series of questions about their experiences as part of the CQC’s National Mother and Child Survey.New mothers were asked to rate each question out of 10, and received an average score of 8.9 out of 10 for labor and delivery.

• Asking Women About Mental Health – 10/10

• Staff advising women about the risks of induced labor – 8.5/10

• Give women a chance to ask questions – 7.4/10

• Receive support from staff after giving birth – 8.4/10

• Kindness and understanding – 9/10

Mum Rachel Fulton, head of maternity services at North Cumbria NHS Trust, said: ‘We are thrilled with the results of this research because this is what women are talking about and we are listening. It’s the voices of women that should be heard.”

“We outperformed other trusts in the country in nine areas, which is great news and we are really proud of it.

“I think a really positive area is in terms of maternal mental health, because, as we all know, mental health is something that is now much more recognized in society, especially among pregnant women in the antenatal and postnatal stages. That’s why.”

Amanda Kennett, Deputy Director of Midwifery at North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC), said: “We continue to improve year on year and it’s great to see patients giving us such positive feedback. ” he said.“We are really pleased with the findings.“I would like to thank our teams who work so hard to make sure our patients feel safe, supported and well cared for before, during and after delivery.“Our maternity service was rated as good by the Care Quality Commission last year.“While we are pleased with the results, we are not resting on our laurels and will continue to examine them further to identify areas where we can improve going forward.”
